Yes, Another Fire

Saturday April 14th the fire trucks were again on East 4th St. The tenant that was grilling with a BBQ on the roof of 120 was at it again. The tenant's conversation with his guests included the virtues of truffle oil and put more lighter fluid on the BBQ, despite the fact that the smoke alarms were sounding off. The same fireman that was in charge last week for the same issue was here again. The tenant told the fireman that its in their lease that they can BBQ on the roof of 120. The fireman said he never heard of such a thing and put the kibosh on it. Here is a page from the NYFD website concerning fire rules and safety.

  1. As terrible as Magnum is, it seems improbable that they would allow the tenants to BBQ on the roof. There is of course the insurance cost. It is illegal, and with the fire dept showing up every weekend, it draws attention to the questionable legality of those cabana structures on the roof tops of 120 and 118.

  2. it's super weird how you're so obsessed with the people that live there. you strike me as the kind of person who just moved out of your mom's basement. i hope you brought all 6 of your cats with you!

    1. "Super weird" it seems to us that the use of that phrase, indicates that you still live in mommy's basement under her close supervision. As for Pussy cats, well they are very intelligent, independent creatures. We're sure you do not have any.

  3. I think it's time to start fining him. That will curb the need to BBQ on the roof. He is putting so many people at risk.

  4. @Anonymous APR 16, 9:15am: No one is obsessed with the people who live there. Quite the contrary. Most of us are obsessed with remaining in a fire and smoke free building. Btw, I left my 6 cats in my mom's basement. Broke my heart, but that was 20 years ago when I moved out right after high school. What's your excuse?

  5. It's much more likely that the tenant who insists on grilling even after he has been repeatedly told by the NYC Fire Dept. that it is illegal to do so is the one who just moved out of mommy's basement and care. He obviously has led a very sheltered life and learned no respect for fire safety laws nor the welfare of the other tenants in the surrounding buildings. (Super weird fact: fires spread.)
